This module of the dental radiography CPD topic will enable you to understand the principles of intra-oral radiography and equipment used. The module also discusses attenuation of ionising radiation and the factors affecting it.

The aims of this module are to understand the principles of intra-oral radiography and equipment used.

This CPD module provides you with 2 hours GDC verifiable CPD.

This CPD relates to GDC development outcome C.

This module will help you to:

• Understand attenuation of ionising radiation and the factors affecting it
• Able to identify basic components of x-ray equipment used for intra-oral radiography
• Aware of the different image receptor holders and secondary collimation
• Able to understand the principles of geometric requirements for image production during all intra-oral techniques
• Able to understand the principles of intra-oral radiography
• Able to describe x-ray unit settings including applied potential (kV), tube current (mA) and exposure setting (mAs)
• Aware of the how changing the above affects x-ray quality
