The aims of this module are to understand the laws and regulations that govern infection control, how to comply with these and be aware of the possible consequences of non-compliance.

• Recognise what can happen to an individual or practice if there is a failure to decontaminate correctly
• Identify the steps taken during an inspection and prosecution
• List the laws and regulations that govern infection control
• Define accountability, compliance and clinical governance
• Describe the tests that are required on standard decontamination equipment
• Identify records that are needed to prove compliance
• List the steps taken to raise a concern or grievance
